Exhibition: Constance DeJong - Bureau Audio
Bureau Audio Constance DeJong September 14, 2024
Bureau is thrilled to announce the re-launch of bureau.audio, our online archive dedicated to sound. Tune in.
Constance DeJong inaugurates this relaunch, contributing a sequence of three new audio tracks. In Rapping, the familiar space of a domestic interior is heard as an acoustic device, shot through with resonant frequencies. Some sounds are within the room: the table in the study is rapping again. Some sounds enter from the hallway, or apartment upstairs. Some remain below the frequency we can hear: undetected sonic presences only intuitively sensed. Always Night follows the contemplative expanse of deep night in a city, inside and around an all-night diner. Electricity is a collaboration across centuries between William Byrd, Tony Conrad and Nikola Tesla. It features Byrd Beat, Conrad’s interpretation of renaissance composer William Byrd’s music which DeJong employed to accompany her in a buzzing duet with Nikola Tesla.
